PARTS OF SPEECH
Here, I will describe speech as our spoken or written group of words to communicate our feelings, demand, desires.
Every sentence we make, is made up of different classes of word. Noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb... I will start with Noun. All these cone together to form parts of the speech the we speak.
NOUN
A noun is any word that identifies every thing, whether living or non living by name. It is a name of,
-Any person: Williams, Adegbite.
-Any place: Africa, Mexico, Abuja.
-Any animal: Lion, goats.
-Any thing: Rock, pen, book.
-Any event: Olympic, Christmas
-Any idea: Gratitude, freedom.
-Any emotion: love, hatred.
-Any plant: Hibiscus, Iroko tree
-Any incident: Accident.
-Any action: Dancing, skipping.
Just name the name. If it is a name, it is a noun. When you come in contact with any name word in a sentence, it is a noun.
Example.
Adegbite lives is Africa. She loves rocks and dogs. She yearly watch out for the Olympic. She has the attitude of gratitude, showing appreciation for just any good thing you do for her. Her father who died in an accident had Iroko plantation. His death left her crying for weeks. 'Oh Poor father!' She mourned.
In this short passage, you will find out that, there are many naming word, such as, Adegbite, Africa, Iroko, hibiscus... All these are noun.
CLASSES OF NOUN
1. Concrete Noun.
Any object that can be recognized by any sense i.e. touch, see, taste...
Examples: pen, chairs, clothes.
2. Abstract Noun
These are qualities, ideas or character.
Examples: Happiness, discipline. 3. Proper Noun
This is the name of a particular person or place.
Examples: Adegbite, Africa, London.
4. Common Noun: A name given to things in general.
Examples: Female, vehicle.
5. Collective Noun: Name given to a group of people, animal...
Examples: Pride of lion, bunch of key.
FORMS OF NOUN
1. Countable Noun
They are nouns that can be counted.
Examples: Tables, chairs, people.
They can be proceeded by a or an, showing the countable feature.
Examples: An orange, A table.
Countable noun can have plural form.
Examples: Table-Tables, house-houses.
2. Uncountable Noun
These are nouns that cannot be counted.
Examples: Water, fire, sand.
They cannot take the plural form.
