SworDHealth: OBESITY
Health is wealth as the popular slogan goes. Hence it is essential we pay attention to every detail our body gives. The benefits of a healthy life goes a long way to our daily activity as it can make or mar how we live. Obesity is a good example of an inappropriate health discredit. Obesity is the state of being grossly fat or overweight or having too much body fat.
This can be expressed by eating food with excessive fat or cholesterol levels, which is a product of an unhealthy lifestyle (bad eating habit) and also lack of physical activities like exercise. The resultant effects of obesity amounts to immobility as the weights slows you down, diabetes, cancer( including breast, ovarian, prostate, liver, gallbladder, endometrial, kidney and colon) ,also fat could block arterial blood supply which can lead to stroke and death of vital organs and human life if not treated fast.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a parameter used to classify overweight and obesity in adults. It is defined as the person’s weight (kg) divided by the square of height (m2).
Under weight: BMI<= 18.5
Normal weight: BMI = 18.5 – 24.9
Overweight: BMI = 25 – 29.9
Obese: BMI >= 30
Obesity can be reduced if individuals can:
-Limit energy intake from total fats and sugar
-Take a lot of fruits and vegetables
-Engage in physical activity (60 minutes a day for children and 150 minutes spread through the week for adults).
Obesity is deadly, don’t be ignorant, seek to eradicate it. Thank you.
