FRESHWATER SNAIL: FRESHWATER GASTROPOD

Freshwater snails are the snails that live in fresh water like, pool, ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. They are of different sizes, shapes, species(4,000). They are found through out the world in different habitations. Most of them have shells, few others do not. Some freshwater gastropods respirate with gills while others get to the water surface to breath. They feed on algae, excess food, remnants of fish, plants.
     Freshwater snails are mostly hermaphrodites, they carry both sperm and eggs for reproduction. Others need the contact of male for fertilization. These ones reach the sexual maturity around one year. They lay eggs after fourteen day of fertilization. They can lay up to 100 but hatch the fertilized and health ones. They hatch between 2-5 weeks.

USE BY HUMAN
-They are used for food.
-They are kept in aquarium for home decoration.
