THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
The circulatory system is the body system responsible for the transportation of blood, nutrients, hormones and gasses from and to cells in the body. This system helps to fight diseases and stabilize body temperature and PH. It is compose of the of the heart, blood and blood vessels. The heart is the key organ in the system. Circulatory system is also known as cardiovascular system.
This system is made up of two systems working as one.
1. The pulmonary : This system is responsible for sending away deoxygenated blood from the heart through the arteries to the lungs. It also returns oxygenated blood through the veins to the heart.
2. The systemic: This system comprises of veins, arteries and blood vessels. They transport blood from the heart, service the blood cells and return it.
ORGANS OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
HEART
It pumps oxygenated blood to the body and deoxygenated blood to the lungs. It propels blood through the body. It gets message from the body, that tells when to pump more or less blood, depending on individual's need.
LUNGS
This is where carbon dioxide is released from the blood and the blood become oxygenated.
ARTERIES
They carry blood away from the heart and through the body.
VEINS
They carry blood back to the heart.
CAPILLARIES
They connect the arteries and veins. They are the smallest tubes in the body that carries blood.
WHAT IS CIRCULATED
1. Blood. It contains the, red blood cells(erythrocytes), white blood cell(leukocytes), platelets (thrombecytes), plasma.
2. Hormones: Examples, oestrogens, testosterone, progesterone, cortisol, insulin.
3. Nutrients: Examples, Amino acid, electrolytes, calcium, vitamin.
4. Gasses: Examples, Oxygen, carbon dioxide.
Diseases of Circulatory System.
