'Alum also called potash alum, a crystalline solid aluminium potassium sulfate... used in medicine, as an astringent and styptic, in dyeing and tanning, and many technical processes'

Types
1. Potash alum. It is the common alum that you find in stores for; picklin and baking powder. It is used in leather tanning. It is used for water purification. It is the type use after shaving and to treat paper, wood, cloth to resist fire.

2. Soda alum. It is used in baking powder. Used in acidinlent of food. It very soluble in water and extremely difficult to purify.

3. Ammonium. This is a crystalline double surface used in water purification, vegetable, glue, porcelain cement, in deodorants, tanning also in fire proving textile.

4. Chrome alum. It is a deep violent compound used in Tanny and can be added to their to grow lavender or purple crystal.

5. Selanate alum. This occurs when selenium take place of sulfur. They are strong oxidizing agent, can be used as antiseptic.

6. Aluminum sulfate. This is refer to paper making alum. It property are quiet different from those of the set of alum described above .

Use
-Water purification
-It is used to stop cut from bleeding.
-Part of ingredients used in making deodorant
-It is used in vaccine
- Flame retardant
-skin whitener
- It is a ingredients in some homemade and commercial modeling clay

All form of alum can cause irritation of the skin and mocus membrane. Breathing alum can cause lung damage. It can also attack the lung tissue. Eating too much of alum can make you sick. Continuous taking of alum can make you vomit. If you keep it down, the alum could upset the Ionic equilibrium in your blood stream. Just like over dozing in any other electrolytes. Alum from your diet can cause degeneration of nervous system. Tissue exposure to alum could lead to an increased risk of certain cancer, brain plagues of Alzheimer diseases..
